Urinetown

Sing of Today - Act I Finale - Photography by Liz Stenholt Photography

I served as the Associate Music Director and Piano Conductor for Theo’s production of Urinetown. This is such a fun show to experience because of how much it is in line aesthetically with the Chicagoland storefront theatre. With a history from the Neo-Futurists, you can feel how scrappy and put-together this show is with its script, yet how exact things must be to exist in the heightened sense of theatre instead of improv.

Aaron Kaplan led the charge in creating an acoustic sound for the show, mirroring the Kurt Weill operettas that this pieces satires. I get to play on an acoustic piano and we have the full orchestration of Keys (Me), Percussion (Craig Buckner), Bass (Eric VonHolst), Trombone (Gabe Ramos), and Reeds (Sachio Nang).
