Addams Family at the Metropolis Performing Arts Center was an absolutely wonderful experience, especially transitioning into an Assistant Music Director role in the professional world. I was lucky enough to work with Robbie Simpson(Stella Adler Artistic Director) again, as well as Aaron Kaplan (Founder of ISM) throughout this production and gained many new insights into regional theater.

I served as the rehearsal accompanist and assistant conductor, piano conducting when Aaron was not able to make a performance. This production really allowed me to learn and retain music at a much faster pace, since our rehearsal process of a month is much faster than any collegiate production. As well, I acquired many new skills as a conductor and working with a professional pit. This was one of the first productions where I was able to dig into a score and really understand it under a mentor, and I found out the importance of nuance to create a holistic production.

As well, it was the first time I had encountered a run longer than a week. A new challenge was keeping the show fresh every time and not falling into old habits. Having a new word to focus on throughout the show allowed myself to channel towards a more specific musical goal while still keeping the high level of playing. Alongside this, maintenance of the show in terms of understudies, pit subs, was also a new challenge that allowed me the experience of being flexible while still staying on track.
